2009
Snetterton- 20th Sep Qualified 2nd. Not as quick as we could have been - car not handling. Led the race from the start and managed to hold off much faster Prosport until the Bombhole on the first lap.... Pushed in 2nd for the whole race as the Prosport seemed to be falling back, but probably just pacing himself. Lapped the car in 3rd... See the full results here...
Silverstone - 22nd Aug Qualified on pole. Fastest lap in practice was a second and a half quicker than on the previous visit, though only had two clear laps. Led the race from start to finish. Track was completely destroyed by the previous race with oil at every corner bar one, so lap times were poor, but it was a comfortable win. See the full results here...
Lydden - 9th Aug Qualified 3rd. First race led from the second corner and hung on until near the end, but ran out of grip in the end and one got past. Not bad for the first run in the car for nearly a year, and with the new engine! 2nd race, led again from the start, but sadly had to retire due to water pump failure..... Fastest lap over a second quicker than last year so promising none the less. See the full results here (Sports Racing & Kit Car 7,8&9 - Pages 41,45&50)...
2008
Brands - 18th&19th Oct Qualified 11th due to technical problems - car kept misfiring down the straight. Found air box had disintegrated, so repaired as best we could for the 1st race and hoped we had cured it. Rolling start - made a good start getting 1 just after the line and another by the end of the 1st lap, with 2 falling off in front. Got another after another lap and was enjoying pulling away, when the misfire returned.... Tried hard to defend, but was a sitting duck by the end of the straight. Two got back past, but managed to keep the rest behind. Was on 2 or 3 cylinders for much of the time...Lucky it was only a 15 minute race, as it didn't sound like it would have made it much further. Finished 7th overall, and 1st in class. Decided that the likely cause of the misfire was the fuel pump falling over in the tank, and without the time to fix it, elected to fill the tank to the top as a temporary solution. Second Race was a longer race (25 minutes) with an enforced stop, with the option for two drivers. Dad did the 1st stint, but unfortunately was spun round at the end of the back straight, loosing time and damaging the rear wing. Driver change was executed perfectly, including bending the rear wing endplate back, in just 35 seconds. Released after the set 60 seconds, I went out to try to fight back. 14th when I came out, had 17 laps to claw my way back up. Tyres were finished by the end and the clutch started to slip badly half way through, but at least there was no misfire! Managed 9th by the end, justly getting the car that spun us round earlier on the last lap. Good fun chasing through the field. Made for an entertaining race, and got driver of the day award for the race! See the full results here (Races 15&22 - Page 369)...
Lydden - 27th Sept Qualified 4th (1 Jade & 2 modified SR4s in front) in the sunshine for a pleasant change. Poor start in the first race, but managed to recover to 4th pretty quickly, but sadly the other SR4s were too fast, and the car wasn't handling very well - finished 4th. Much better start in the second race, and managed to get ahead of one of the SR4s for a lap, but he got past pretty quickly. Kept in touch and pushed for a while, until he unexpectedly ground to a halt...before recovering completely a lap later, but happily a lap behind! Car handling much better, and really enjoyed it - finished 3rd. See the full results here (Races 2 & 6)...
Brands - 6th Sept Qualified 3rd for one race, but was 1st reserve and would have had to start from the back of the grid, so passed on that one. Qualified 4th for another race. All qualifying in the rain. The race was a dry line on a wet track on slicks (changed at the last minute in the collection area - well done to the team for managing to get them on in time!). Not the best of starts but held 4th into the first corner, before being nudged wide by another SR4 - no surprise there. Lost a couple of places as a result, and a couple more faster cars made it past, but fought back as best as possible in the 10 minutes available. Slicks never warmed up and suffered pretty limiting understeer, but managed 6th overall. See the full results here (Race 6)...
Cadwell Park - 6th July Finished 3rd overall in the 2nd race, in the pouring rain, on slicks..... See the full results here...
2007 Round 8 - Brands - 7th October Race was going well, fighting for 4th/5th when 2 laps from the end was spun round at druids. See the full results for Race 1 here... See the Radical website writeup here...
Round 6 - Croft - 26th August Finished 6th in the 1st race and 7th in the 2nd. See the full results for Race 1 here... , and for Race 2 here... See the Radical website writeup here...
Round 5 - Donington - 5th August Qualified 9th and in race 1, got a blinding start, getting 5th by the 1st corner and 3rd by the end of the 1st lap. One retirement ahead soon left me 2nd. Then followed the longest 18 minutes of my life as I defended from the robust challenges from Woodward behind, as he tried in vane to out-brake me into the final corner. Held on to 2nd to the end. Second race was looking promising, but sadly stretched the chain off the start, and though I'd made it from 8th to 5th by the end of the 1st lap, the race was then red flagged due to an accident on the start line and, taking the opportunity to check the damage on the grid before the restart, had to be pushed into the pit lane to fix it. Despite a sterling effort by our chief mechanic (Simon) to fix it, I got out of the pit lane 50 seconds behind... I picked off a couple of cars by the end, but never stood a chance. Finished 50 seconds behind the leader, so it could have been a good one. Looking forward to the next one... See the full results for Race 1 here... , and for Race 2 here...
Round 3 - Spa - 17th June Mixed races of SR8s, SR3s and SR4s and a rolling start through a tight chicane... Finished 7th in class in the 1st race and 8th in the second. See the full results for Race 1 here... , and for Race 2 here...
Round 1 - Snetterton - 29th April Had some problems in qualifying and started from near the back, but fought up to 11th in the 1st race, and to 8th in the second race. See the Radical website writeup here... (see images 1 & 3). See the full results here...
